The preservation of biodiversity is often hampered by conflicting interests over natural resources. For example, conflicts over forest protection in Europe are mainly over conservation (that limits local communities), recreation, wood production and urban development. Public participation in planning and policies is often limited, both in terms of impact and representativeness.
How to overcome these challenges:
- Rethinking participatory processes?
- Creating a strong collaboration between policy authorities, scientific experts, conservation practitioners and landowners?
- What other possible approaches could be applied to increase the support for the improved policies?
