This is the good practice's implementation level. It can be national, regional or local.
About this good practice
The Region of Central Macedonia is currently working to identify and develop new ways of collaboration among the traditional sectors (such as tourism and agriculture) and the dynamic sectors such as ICT and Cultural and Creative Sectors (CCS). The local market is in need of good examples but also of actors and initiatives who will act as catalysts in order to achieve cross-sectoral partnerships. On the other hand, regardless of the local creators’ excellence in graphic design, packaging, industrial and web design there was not a communication channel between them and the agri-food commissions.
Another crucial factor is the increasing opportunities appearing in the crossing points of the rural and urban world. Agriculture and food production are a core economic activity in the rural (or peri-urban) areas while the design services are mainly located in the urban areas, basically within the urban centres.
The AgroDesign Cluster is a bottom up action initiated by the local creative community of Thessaloniki, through the activity of the Creativity Platform – a non-profit organisation. The main stakeholders of the initiative are: (a) local creative professionals (designers, graphic designers, architects, web-designers, photographers etc.), (b) regional agri-food producers and small manufacturers and (c) local relevant institutions from both sectors such as: Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF Helexpo), American Farm School, Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and others.

Resources needed
As bottom-up initiative the AgroDesign Cluster is a self-funded initiative supported by its members, creative professionals and agri-food producers. The Cluster has received initial funding (20.000€) from: Dutch Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie Institution and the Netherland’s Embassy in Athens
Evidence of success
As many EU policy documents demonstrate, innovation dynamics take place at the borderline between various sectors. The AgroDesign bottom-up initiative proves to be a successful model to support the generation of such synergies. So far the Cluster developed 1 Toolkit of services offered to producers and designers. It organised 4 Agri-food Exhibitions, resulting in up to 200 new packages; 72 producer-creator meetings, 25 “creative couples” in open events, 20 open lectures and thematic discussions.
Potential for learning or transfer
The AgroDesign initiative offers an innovative cooperation model and tools for linking the Cultural and Creative Sectors and the Agri-food sector. The model can be transferred to other sectors such as ICT, Tourism etc., in order to support joint initiatives, which foster the better understanding across sectoral activities and skills and contribute to developing a more open, innovative and entrepreneurial mind-set.
The AgroDesign practice may formulate a methodology to support specific sectors (such as CCS and Agri-food) in exploring and approaching new audience and in developing innovative market-oriented strategies and business models.
The initiative may formulate a supporting and consulting mechanism regarding the bottom-up initiatives that can support the regional innovation system and the smart specialisation process.
The AgroDesign toolkit and training services are also transferable to other regional contexts in Europe.
