Introduction of public services based on electric vehicles
About this good practice
City of Koprivnica, as a small city with 30000 inhabitants has established a fully functioning public transport system based on electric buses. Koprivnica, prior to that did not have a public transport system. So, it had the opportunity to establish a system that would suit the needs of a small city. The initial idea was that the system should be available and affordable. Therefore, it was decided to develop a system that would use electric buses which would enable lower costs of operation and the wider availability opportunities regarding EU funding.
Resources needed
City of Koprivnica, for the need of establishing the public transport system has purchased external services for the development of the initial “Plan of the public transport system of the City of Koprivnica” that required 20.000,00 € and purchased two electric buses that costed around 200.000,00 € i
Evidence of success
The success of the public transport system is that it is in its sixth year of running and that is continuing to expand and being incorporated in City of Koprivnica strategic documents.
Potential for learning or transfer
The potential of this action is rather large. There are many cities of this size in Europe that do not have a public transport system and could learn from the experience of the City of Koprivnica. Also, the future of public transport is certainly electric, so this could be a potential for many cities to learn.
