PAS Research Centre - Energy Conversionand Renewable Resources
About this good practice
The center constitutes the scientific and technological base of Mazovia, the northern region and the entire scientific community of Poland, in research fields closely related to the country's energy security. The center is testing technologies operating abroad with the intention of implementing them in Polish conditions. All activities conducted by KEZO are aimed at spreading the implementation of environmentally, economically and socially acceptable solutions. This will allow part of society to escape energy poverty, and at the same time reduce the harmfulness to the climate, environment and health.
The goal of KEZO is to bring technology from the research sphere into everyday life.
KEZO performs, among others: - analyses of energy efficiency of investments in RES (photovoltaic/solar panels, hybrid energy storage, heat pumps, wind turbines) for end users (local and regional administrations and their citizens); - manages distributed energy systems; - conducts activities for local decarbonisation, sustainable and integrated energy system in local communities; - creates hybrid coupled networks for thermoelectrically integrated smart energy districts; - trains in the safe operation of devices based on renewable energy sources; - promotes knowledge about RES. Beneficiaries: Society of the region, country; entrepreneurs.
Beneficients: Society of the region, country; entrepreneurs.
Resources needed
Project value: PLN 91,261,348.95
Value of funding: PLN 75,832,687.35 co-financed by the European Union under the Regional Operational Program of the Mazovian Voivodeship for 2007-2013. Current activities are financed by the Polish Academy of Sciences - public funds.
Evidence of success
KEZO conducts work not only on technologies for obtaining energy from renewable sources, technologies for storing this energy and methods of transmitting it, but also on energy management techniques thanks to IT techniques, as well as popularizing knowledge about renewable energy in society. Regular meetings and training sessions effectively disseminate knowledge about alternative energy sources.
Potential for learning or transfer
KEZO's offer is based mainly on a wide spectrum of various issues related to renewable energy, focusing on aspects of generation, storage and processing, as well as energy flow management in intelligent distribution networks. The center also serves an educational function by organizing training on ecology, raising the awareness of residents and potential investors related to the purchase and selection of appropriate renewable energy technologies to use for their needs. In addition, many companies operating on the Polish market ask us to perform tests on technologies that they have developed themselves or partially imported from abroad to verify their effectiveness (determining current-voltage curves of photovoltaic modules, determining the COP coefficient for heat pumps). The project involves analyzing the possibilities of replicating the solutions.
Greater acceptance of new technologies and trust in devices using the idea of renewable energy sources.
