About this good practice
Initially created to promote eco-responsibility among young dinghy sailors in the harbor of Marseille, the GSG association is also committed to the implementation of eco-regats.
The first major exploratory event of the 2024 Olympic Games was held from 21/10/2021 to 28/10/2021 on the Prado beaches with the European IQfoil windsurfing championship. It was an international event (34 nations present), not accessible to the public and with about 400 people on site on land and sea (athletes, sports staff, organizers, catering on site, volunteers ...)
Prior to the event, rules aimed at limiting the use of plastic were adopted in agreement with the organizing club of the event.
For the catering and the refreshment area :
- the use of compostable tableware was imposed,
- no sale of individual drinks,
- use of returnable ecocups.
Moreover, in order to encourage the consumption of tap water, the athletes and volunteers received a reusable water bottle.
In terms of waste management :
- organization of a cleaning of the site before and after the event
- implementation of selective sorting (signage) and composting (the alchemists https://alchimistes.co/compostage-bouches-du-rhone/)
- sensitization of the people present on the event.
