About the project
The use of marine environment is regulated by international regulations and environmental requirements for shipping are becoming stricter rapidly. Shipping industry and control agencies need to adjust with changes and have the knowledge to implement. As control over environmental regulations in shipping is divided into port state control, flagstate control and coastal state control, the control measures are carried out by different agencies. It is common that environmental control agencies have expertise in environmental aspects but no knowledge in ship-related fields, and vice versa with shipping control agencies. There is no overview available how control requirements in shipping are fulfilled, how control agencies get their qualifications, and what qualifications are needed for diferent control measures. Our objective is to identify the requirements of environmental ship inspections, share best practices, and develop training course to provide necessary skills for these inspections.
