Conference on Sustainable Tourism in Lublin Region
In June, the Polish Tourist Organisation, in collaboration with the Lublin Regional Tourist Organisation, co-hosted the “Cooperation-Innovation-Sustainable Tourism” conference. The event featured the Marshal's Office of the Lubelskie Voivodeship (PL), a project partner of Tourism4SDG, as the Honorary Partner, where they presented a captivating vision of a responsible tourism economy, based on regional data.
In attendance was the Lublin tourism industry, including representatives of local governments, local entrepreneurs, tourist organisations, and tourism specialists and experts. The wide range of tourism stakeholders’ presence and involvement was crucial in allowing the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and best practices.
Inspired by the EU priority objective Agenda 2030’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the conference showcased the state of implementation of sustainable tourism in the Lublin region, in parallel with global trends. Particularly, the presentation of a professor specialised in the field of sustainable development presented a report on conducted online surveys, that included questions related to the 17 SDGs, and to the cultural, socioeconomic, and environmental aspects of sustainability in tourism.
Other speakers covered topics such as the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in tourism, the incorporation of sustainable development in building the brand of the Lubelskie Voivodeship, and the importance of raising awareness about sustainable tourism. Furthermore, the event culminated with an expert debate on strategic decisions, local initiatives, promotion of green services, and mobility in tourism communication, complemented by the presentation of the region’s unique tourist values and ongoing campaigns.
The rapidly changing times require a need to adapt to trends in demand and shape the developmental conditions on the supply side. The Polish Tourist Organisation conference "Cooperation-Innovation-Sustainable Tourism" is part of a series of training and workshops in Poland. It is not only an opportunity to gain knowledge and establish valuable contacts, but also a key step towards transforming Polish tourism into a more sustainable and innovative industry.
