aws Pressed Deep Tech
Preseed – Deep Tech supports innovative start-up ideas that generate a technological impact.
Start-ups develop in preseed and seed stages. Innovations are made in the deep tech sector, in the sustainable sector and sometimes in creative and social sectors. For that reason, there is a funding cluster that covers the preseed and seed stage for deep-tech, sustainable, creative and social innovations at aws (Austria Wirtschaftsservice).
Funding Program: Preseed – Deep Tech
- problem: funding needed for expensive innovative deep tech solutions in the preseed stage
- context: business challenges are supposed to be solved with deep tech solutions
- objective: fund innovative deep tech solutions in preseed stage, protect innovations to support Austrian economy
- remedy: fund proof of concept and check the scalability of the business
- implementation:
- -> ministry defines strategy for innovation funding
- -> ministries and other shareholders define the amount of the grant
- -> aws (Austria Wirtschaftsservice) checks the applications and distributes the money to the grantees in preseed stage
- supplementary/subsequent funding programs:
- aws Seed Funding Deep Tech
- aws Green IP
- -> grantee can be in several funding programs at the same time as long as double funding is excluded
- unbiased IP coaching can be provided by the aws IP department to support innovation protection
Main Stakeholders/Beneficiaries:
- innovators in preseed stage
- branches: deep tech industries (e.g. digitalization, ICT, physical science, Green Tech, quantum technology, life science (pharma/Biotech, MedTech incl. Digital Health)
deep tech solutions that support the EU Green Deal (e.g. businesses/services that contribute to European climate neutrality by 2050)
Funding Amount/Financial Resources:
- max. 200.000 € per project (if a woman is part of the founding team)
- max. 170.000 € per project (if a woman is not part of the founding team)
Human Resources: 2-3 employees (full-time)
Project Time Scope: 1-2 years
- funding cluster covers the stages preseed, seed, SME
- preseed funding is the complementary funding program to seedfunding
- preseed funding covers the cost-intensive preseed development stages of a company
- max. 200.000 € per project if a woman is part of the founding team

There is also a special focus on GREEN Preseed:
For Deep Tech founders and Deep Tech companies that meet the preseed requirements AND whose future product or service offering falls within the scope of the EU Green Deal.

- Sustainable industry: For sustainable and more environmentally friendly production cycles
- Mobility: promoting environmentally friendly means of transport
- Sustainable Agriculture & Farm to Table: Ensuring a more sustainable food chain
- Biodiversity: measures to protect our fragile ecosystem
- Elimination of environmental pollution: measures to combat environmental pollution quickly and effectively
- Buildings and renovation: need for a greener construction sector
