This year's  PLASTKO 2024 conference, held on 17-18 April at the Tomas Bata University (UTB) in the city of Zlín in the eastern part of the Czech Republic, focused on eco-innovation in the field of plastic products and the issue of legislation related to plastics recycling and ecological transformation. The aim was to share current trends and best practices and to promote cooperation between business and academia.

Held for the first time in 2008, it has long provided a platform for the presentation of news, trends and research results in the plastics sector, including student research projects.

Presentations at the conference covered a wide range of practical topics, such as the use of PCR (post-consumer regranulate) materials in the construction industry, efficient injection moulding of plastics or the use of company waste, as well as EU legislation or companies' ESG strategies. The conference was organised by the Technology Transfer Centre and the University Institute of Technology UTB in cooperation with the Plastics Cluster. It was attended by around 100 representatives from various sectors of the plastics industry and academia, including representatives from institutions such as the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic, the Moravian-Silesian Automotive Cluster and the University of Chemical Technology in Prague.

The PLASTKO 22 conference, which took place two years ago, attracted a great deal of interest from the professional public after a four-year break due to the pandemic, and brought together Czech and foreign experts who have been working in the field of bioplastics for a long time.

The aim of the concept is to show that plastics production and processing is not a despicable industry but, on the contrary, a long-term contributor to environmental protection. And, of course, to give manufacturers the right arguments to use when promoting their products in the end markets.

PLASTKO is a conference with a long tradition that has provided much inspiration and led to many successful collaborations.

The results of the conference will be disseminated through an electronic proceedings.
