ADAPTO Project Partners Meet in Ireland
ADAPTO project partners gathered in Thurles, Ireland, hosted by Technological University of the Shannon, for an in-depth exchange on climate adaptation strategies. Representatives from various regions shared their experiences and discussed innovative approaches to tackle pressing climate challenges.
The meeting kicked off with interactive sessions where partners presented their regional climate adaptation policies and explored various horizontal topics. These included governance models, risk assessment methodologies, and strategies to move from planning to effective implementation and monitoring. Such exchanges provided valuable insights into best practices and highlighted opportunities for cross-regional collaboration.
On the second day, partners visited Cabragh Wetlands to learn about local efforts to protect peatlands and wetlands. An alarming fact emerged during the visit—Ireland has lost about 90% of its peatlands over time, underscoring the critical importance of conservation work. The visit included presentations by local experts from CARO and EMRA, who explained the ecological and climate resilience benefits that well-preserved wetlands bring, not only to biodiversity but also to water management and carbon sequestration.
Edvardas Baltuška, the project’s Communication Manager, shared his thoughts on the importance of these exchanges: “Meeting in person and experiencing the local context firsthand allows us to build stronger connections and gain practical insights. Each region brings unique perspectives and solutions, which collectively strengthen ADAPTO's goal of creating a resilient future for all.”
This meeting was an excellent opportunity for ADAPTO partners to strengthen their network and collaboratively advance the project’s objectives. ADAPTO aims to empower regions across Europe to adapt to climate change by sharing knowledge, tools, and best practices.
