Let’s ADAPTO: I LSG meeting in Lubelskie
On September 18th, Lubelskie Voivodeship hosted the first meeting of the Local Stakeholder Group for the ADAPTO project. The event was attended by nearly 20 representatives from key regional institutions involved in the tackling of the issue of adapting to a climate change, among others:

- Lublin City Hall
- Zamość City Hall
- ULSL Department of Power Engineering and Transportation
- MCSU Center for Climate Change and Environment Research
- Lublin Landscape Parks Unit
- Roztocze Landscape Park
- Polesie Landscape Park
As an opening, the Project Coordinator from the Department of Strategy and Development in the Marshal Office of Lubelskie Voivodeship provided an outlook on the project, its goal, partners, work schedule, and the expected results. The participants listened in interest about the long-term value and the immediate benefits of participating in the ADAPTO Local Stakeholder Group.
Next, the Director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources discussed the “Environmental Protection Program of the Lubelskie Voivodeship”. The scope of novelization of the document, along with the latest legal regulations within the EU and the country were detailed in the pressing context of adaptation to climate change.
Related by words of the Director of MCSU Center for Climate Change and Environment Research, the participants had an opportunity to learn about its lead undertakings. The Center is a platform for cooperation in the field of research and environmental protection with a mission to educate the public and to reduce a harmful impact of civilization on the natural environment.
Introducing adaptation activities from the local government level, the Representative of the Lublin City Hall presented the "Lublin City Adaptation Plan to Climate Change by 2030". The Plan identifies sectors of the urban environment that require targeted intervention, activities in the field of protection and expansion of blue-green infrastructure, up to ensuring the safety of residents against extreme phenomena caused by climate change.
The 1st meeting of the Lublin LSG within the ADAPTO project concluded with a lively discussion. Most statements circulated around a need to update the region’s regulations on environmental adaptation activities, as well as a need to take profiled and locale - specific types of action that help adjust to specific features and challenges assigned to a region.
As a positive note and an incentive for future cooperation, all members of the LSG were invited to submit proposals for good practices to be presented at the 2nd interregional ADAPTO meeting, which will take place in Ireland in October.
