Workshop on citizen engagement in Energy Communities
The BIOWIND project participated to the Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platform workshop on building citizen engagement in Energy Communities, in Budapest, Hungary on the 4th of December 2024. Partners of the project, experts and representatives from European regions exchanged ideas, approaches and experiences on Energy communities.
Presentations and methodologies during the workshop emphasized the ability of energy communities to enhance grid stability, reduce emissions, boost local economies and support a more efficient and sustainable energy system overall. Focus was set on the role of people and especially in the early stages of building the energy communities, for successfully enhancing the citizens’ involvement.
The University of Patras (UPAT) presented techniques and perspectives at the workshop, regarding increasing awareness and building consensus among stakeholders of energy communities. European initiatives were communicated along with good practices from Catalonia, Greece and Ireland, providing insight and expertise from successful wind energy community projects, encouraging the development of more renewable energy projects owned by people.
