CHEERS4EU: Network innovation in Portugal

On March 12, 2025, the Portuguese team of the Interreg Cheers4EU project hosted its second workshop, marking another key step toward a more circular and sustainable economy. The event gathered 30 stakeholders from Portugal's centre agro-industrial sector to explore practical strategies for embedding circular economy principles into daily operations.
The workshop focused on multi-helix collaboration to foster the translation of the circular economy concepts into tangible strategies. Discussions ranged from policy instruments that encourage circular practices to the power of innovation through collaboration.
A key moment was the co-creation session for a future Portugal Centre Circular Hub, where participants actively contributed with ideas to shape this dynamic platform.
Participants tackled crucial questions to define the structure and impact of the Circular Hub, including:
✅ Who should be involved?
✅ What role can companies play?
✅ What are the key challenges?
✅ Which circular solutions are already in place or being explored?
✅ How can the Circular Hub drive real impact?
✅ What infrastructure is necessary?
✅ What benefits can be expected?
Stakeholders outlined a first vision for the Portugal Centre Circular Hub as a dynamic, digital, and interactive platform featuring:
🔹 A central point of contact for guidance and networking.
🔹 A knowledge-sharing system, including contact lists and expertise mapping.
🔹 Practical resources, such as waste declassification guidelines, and best practices
🔹 A recognition framework to certify and promote circular economy leaders.
🔹 Training programs to provide professionals with circular economy skills.
The Cheers4EU project remains committed to empowering regions through circular innovation.
This workshop fostered meaningful discussions and laid the foundation for a collaborative ecosystem where businesses, institutions, and policymakers can drive sustainable change together.
