Although the CHEERS4EU project started on April 1, 2024, the official start took place during the kick-off of the project. Representatives of all participating regions met physically for the first time on 6, 7 and 8 May.

A full program
The participants got to know each other informally during a dinner on Monday evening. Because of this good acquaintance, the group was able to get started immediately on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. The program included a visit to the Chemelot Circular Hub at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Geleen. CHEERS4EU is the first Interreg Europe-project that is focusing on Circular Hubs, so a visit to such a hub could not be missing from the program. The participants were introduced to some of the hub's companies, their work and expertise and their experiences with the hub.

Next to visiting the Circular Hub, the first meeting of the Project Steering Committee took place during the kick-off. A number of topics related to the project, such as activities, finances and communication, were discussed. In addition, some experiences were also shared with each other and there was reflection on the visit to the Chemelot Circular Hub.

And of course there was also the festive moment of the official start of the project, with a CHEERS4EU-cake!

Successful first meeting
Dirk Plees, host of the kick-off and project partner (Province of Limburg): “We are very pleased that we have now really started working together! And proud that we were able to organize the kick-off here, in Maastricht and Geleen. It is precisely by meeting and getting to know each other in real life, exchanging experiences and determining the next steps, that we can say that this first meeting was very instructive and successful. It’s a fantastic opportunity to be participating in such a great project and i am very confident that together we will also make the CHEERS4EU-project a resounding success."

Through intensive cooperation and the exchange of good practices, together the project partners strengthen the operation, the yield and the network of European Circular Hubs. With this, we will take significant steps towards a circular European economy.
