The Province of Potenza, member of the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change and Lead Partner of CIBioGO initiative, takes part to the 2nd Forum on the EU Mission Adaptation to Climate Change on 12-13 June 2023 at Ronneby in Region Blekinge, Sweden.
The EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change focuses on supporting EU regions, cities and local authorities in their efforts to build resilience against the impacts of climate change and contributes to:
- putting the EU’s adaptation strategy in practice by helping the regions to better understand the climate risks they are and will be confronted with in the future
- develop their pathways to be better prepared and cope with the changing climate
- test and deploy on the ground innovative solutions needed to build resilience
The Forum is an opportunity to take stock, identify issues, provide direction, and define the path ahead. It will also showcase regional initiatives on adaptation to climate change and will facilitate dialogue between the participants of the Forum.
Part of the event, a site visit to a ecosystem best practice, the Biosphere Reserve of Blekinge Archipelago (EuroMAB network, 2011). Blekinge Archipelago, includes most of the coastal areas and archipelagos of Blekinge in the southeast of Sweden. With over 200,000 ha, the biosphere reserve comprises landscapes of granite coastline with the accompanying archipelago containing a variety of islands and islets. The area is marked by a rich natural and cultural heritage, as well as the strong and cultural heritage, as well as the strong commitment of local people to maintain the social and economic dynamics of the region through innovative thinking and entrepreneurship, alongside the development of energy efficient and environmentally friendly technologies. Joint research is being carried out by municipalities and universities on the sustainable use of coastal resources.
Thanks to the participation of the Province of Potenza, Lead Partner of CIBioGO initiative, the event represents also an opportunity to CiBioGO for enriching the background knowledge on climate changes adaptation measures using biodiversity preservation and valorisation solutions and for enlarging the networking into new partnership scenarios including the HORIZON Europe programs.
