Ecological Networks and Cultural Itineraries as a driving force for Community Development and Resilience

Organized by <MCR2030 Resilience HUB, European Policies Aggregate Desk (SAPE) and by the Province of Potenza>.

After the 2 days held in Matera, on the 15th and 16th of July, the Province of Potenza, LP of the project, hosted a delegation from Romania for the “Ecological Networks and Cultural Itineraries as a driving force for Community Development and Resilienceevent, whose objective is to create a shared and living cultural heritage in perfect symbiosis with the biodiversity of the places.

In addition to the many cultural and historical places visited during the 2 days held in the Basilicata region, there were the Monticchio Lakes; located in the south-western slope of Mount Vulture, they are very rich in biodiversity and contain plenty of environments such as woods, cliffs, lava fields, grasslands, lake wetlands and a cultivated area.

The presence of these many natural environments has favored the survival of a rich and diverse fauna, some of which falls into the protected species category.

Besides the otter, which is internationally protected, another example of a very important and unique natural species that is observable in the Mount Vulture is the Acantho Brahmaea europaea; a butterfly that only flies a few days a year and very few hours during the day.

Along the banks of the two bodies of water stands the magnificent Benedictine Abbey of San Michele that is also home to the Vulture Natural History Museum that was one of the many historical and cultural places visited during the event.
