Last week, the partnership, hosted by the Vidzeme Planning Region, gathered in the stunning city of Valmiera for the 4th Peer Review Meeting.
The main objective was to present examples of how citizens are involved in biodiversity protection through active participation in the fields as well as data collection, as seen in the "Attention invasive" campaign, which engages people in the fight against invasive species by reporting them to scientists.
After the presentation of many good practices, all revolving around the aforementioned issues, a stakeholder workshop and a final sharing session concluded the first day.

The second one, instead, was dedicated to the study visits:
- Visitation of Randu meadows (coastal meadows) nature trail: experience of the reed sculpture festival as a citizen engagement activity;
- Salaca river valley: citizen engagement in the cleaning of rivers and protection of spawning and migration of salmonids;
- Visit to the Nature Education Centre of the North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve: experience with public monitoring and citizen engagement activities;
- Nature park Skaņaiskalns: citizen engagement in governance and decision-making in the nature park;
Lastly, the final day was dedicated to the masterclass and study visit evaluation, the discussion about the policy improvement activities, and the communication ones.
The final report will be soon available in our project library!
Stay tuned for more!
