The meeting started at 9.00h. Representatives of composting plants, anaerobic fermentation plants, municipalities, plant operators, as well as some members of the technical table on food waste (provincial offices, Free University of Bozen/Bolzano, Consumer Protection Center), and colleagues from the Environment Agency were present.

The meeting opened with the greetings of the Provincial Assessor for the Environment of the Province of Bolzano (Giuliano Vettorato) in the presence of the Director of the Department for the Environment and Italian Culture (Antonio Lampis) of which the Environment Agency with the waste management office is a part. The Interreg Europe programme was illustrated, with an in-depth look at the CORE project: objectives, financial endowment, structure of the activities, methods of implementation. The project partners and good practices presented at the kick-off meeting held in April 2023 in CIudad Real were then presented. Finally, the draft programme of the next international meeting, to be held in South Tyrol from 26 to 28 September 2023, was presented.

The project was greeted with interest and participation by the stakeholders, who intervened by proposing interesting topics for the next meetings (for instance the topic related to the presence of microplastics in the material to be composted / destined for anaerobic fermentation).

The prospect of having a fixed appointment for networking in the next 4 years for people who are not normally in contact - especially after the pandemic - has been an aspect related to CORE particularly appreciated by stakeholders.
