3rd International Partner Meeting in Mechelen (Belgium)
We are pleased to share that our 3rd international partner meeting and study visit took place without a hitch. Participants included both project partners and representatives of their stakeholders. All in all 48 people gathered for the international seminar.
This visit was organised by Vlaco and took place in Mechelen (Belgium) from May 14th-16th. It gave everyone the opportunity to explain their progress and work so far, present their Good Practices gathered from their regions and exchange further knowledge. Stakeholders also took part in the event, creating the opportunity for networking and sharing experiences.
The study visit included Good Practices on training master composters and other volunteers and the engagement of citizens and organizations in composting in rural areas.
On the first day all participants got the chance to visit a neighbourhood composting site "t Compostjen" in Lokeren and a green waste composting plant in Sint-Niklaas.
The second day started with a visit of the DJ greenwaste composting plant in Lochristi where VLACO presented the plant and introduced how qualitiy assurance is done in practice.
VLACO showed as well how compost samples are taken for quality control.
After a lunch break with the VLACO Foodtruck, we visited a combined anaerobic digestion and composting plant (DDS-Verko) in Dendermonde. An interview with the plant manager will be published soon! In the afternoon, the project partners went to ILVO, the Flemish Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Research, where the farm composting system was explained. A presentation was given on current research into the use of compost in agriculture and horticulture.
On the last day, the project partners visited the 'Comité Jean Pain' in Londerzeel.
We have also published a more detailed report written by Vlaco on this international study visit, including summaries of the good practices presented.
