Veszprém Hosts Compost Festival for Sustainable Practices
On September 18, 2024, Veszprém celebrated its commitment to sustainability with the first-ever Veszprém Compost Festival, held at the park adjacent to the newly installed Csikász Street Community Composting Facility. This event aimed to familiarize residents with the community composter, which began operations in early September.
The festival kicked off with an introduction featuring key stakeholders from the CORE project, which were involved with the composter's installation. Representatives from the Public Utility Service Company, University of Pannonia, Municipality of Veszprém, Csikász Street Gardening Association, Mester Street Gardening Association, and CTRIA Nonprofit Ltd. detailed the composter's purpose, the composting process, and operational management.
Attendees also had the chance to meet the master composter, who provided insights into the composter's operational rules. Residents engaged in discussions, addressing concerns about potential issues like odors and rodent activity, fostering a collaborative atmosphere for problem-solving.
This informal exchange not only educated the community about composting but also built trust and encouraged ongoing awareness of sustainable practices in Veszprém. The event marked a significant step toward enhancing environmental stewardship among the city's residents.
