In the first part of the ENAIBLER project, partners have been working in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Context Analysis of the partner regions. Regarding of Ireland the report shows that the Irish government is actively fostering AI development through various national programs and legal frameworks. The "Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund," part of Project Ireland 2040, is key to driving AI innovation, with significant investments supporting startups and research. While the legal framework around AI is evolving, data protection laws remain strict.

In Donegal, local initiatives such as Enterprise Ireland’s Innovation Vouchers and the European Digital Innovation Hubs, Data2Sustain, aim to boost AI adoption among SMEs. Training programs like AI-focused degrees at Atlantic Technological University and workshops led by local bodies are helping develop AI expertise regionally.

Local AI-driven companies like BrandCanvas and Finnius Intelligence showcase the region’s growing AI sector, although adoption remains early-stage with limited data on private investment. Public initiatives, such as ENAIBLER project partner Donegal County Council's use of AI for flood prediction, are underway, but broader public sector AI deployment is hampered by a lack of awareness and skills.

Nationally, Ireland is preparing to close regulatory gaps, while promoting AI education and aligning legal frameworks for AI deployment across sectors.
