Ferrara Stakeholders Continue Their Journey to Highlight JCH

The local working group of the #JewelsTour project continues its path with a second meeting held on March 27th, reaffirming the city's commitment to developing innovative strategies to enhance its tangible and intangible Jewish cultural heritage.
The session brought together key local stakeholders with the shared goal of strengthening their collective knowledge and skills related to Ferrara’s rich Jewish heritage and its potential as a cultural and touristic asset.
Participants included representatives from the Jewish Community of Ferrara, the National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah (MEIS), the Institute of Contemporary History and different local associations. They were joined by members of the Municipality of Ferrara, including the Museum of the Risorgimento and Resistance, the Tourism Unit, and the European Projects Unit.
A key moment of the meeting was the urban exploratory walk, which offered a meaningful opportunity for participants to deepen their understanding of Ferrara’s Jewish heritage through the voices of its custodians and scholars. A particularly significant stop was the visit to the Synagogue on Via Mazzini, where members of the Jewish Community, including the President and the Rabbi, shared valuable insights on Jewish intangible heritage as, for example, a fascinating overview of Jewish culinary traditions and their ties to the local history, adding a unique perspective to the cultural narrative.
The meeting continued with discussions focused on developing strategies to engage both local and broader audiences in appreciating and promoting Ferrara's Jewish cultural heritage. The dialogue also helped identify new opportunities for collaboration and cultural tourism development.
The reflections gathered and the updated heritage mapping will serve as the foundation for future working group meetings, aimed at shaping impactful strategies and fostering an innovative approach to cultural tourism in Ferrara.
