First Online Local Stakeholder Group Meeting

On September 27th, the Municipality of Coimbra organized the first online Local Stakeholder Group (LSG) meeting of the Jewels Tour project, starting an important joint work whose main goal is the valorisation and the promotion of the Jewish heritage, along with the better positioning of the cultural and religious tourism based on this thematic.

The meeting counted on the presence of the Turismo Centro de Portugal, responsible for the promotion, valorisation and sustainability of the touristic activity in the Centre Region, accompanied by important entities supporting the Municipality of Coimbra in this project since the very beginning, such as Center Regional Coordination and Development Commission, Intermunicipal Community of Coimbra Region and the University of Coimbra.

Considering the relevant contribution from the academic community in the production and scientific knowledge transfer about Jewish heritage, the Department of Languages and Cultures of the University of Aveiro and the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Lisbon where also invited to join this project and to participate in the meeting. These two entities cooperate with the Municipality in the organization of the VII International Congress of Luso-Sephardic Dialogues, that will take place in Coimbra in July 2025. All the project partners are invited to attend the event.

This first meeting focused on the project and its objectives, on the importance of partnerships and networking, on good practices sharing and territorial development strategies. All the participants had the opportunity to share their perspectives and it has been highlighted the possible relations within this and other projects related to sustainable tourism as well as with initiatives on the same topic.

The first in person meeting of Jewels Tour project was also referred. The event will be in Ferrara (Italy), on the 15 and 16 of October. It will be an occasion to discuss on the local stakeholder group involvement process along with other subjects.

The participants agreed in a new meeting to present the results from the Ferrara meeting and define next steps.
