City of Coimbra

Coimbra is a millenarian city located in Portugal, one of the major Portuguese tourist destinations whose university is classified as UNESCO World Heritage.

The Municipality of Coimbra is partner of the JEWELS TOUR project, funded by the Interreg Europe programme, in order to ensure the valorisation of the Jewish cultural and historical heritage of the area.
Despite the Jewish neighborhoods, buildings and places are already a strong part of the city’s identity and tourist attractions, the local authority intends to learn new methodologies and create new tourism sites associated with the Jewish Heritage, which includes a rare Mikveh - a structure for the practice of Jewish bathing, recently discovered and dating back to medieval times.

Additionally, the participation in the JEWELS TOUR project aims at fostering the city's tourism sector and weaving strategic international partnerships. The multidisciplinary Team combines different skills and competencies to improve the policy instrument: the Regional Tourism Development Plan 2020-2030, whose managing entity is Turismo Centro de Portugal, which is an associated Policy Authority of the project.

Follow the JEWELS TOUR social media pages to get to know more about the other
partners and stay updated on the project.
