Louise Ward discussed Roscommon County Council's application for JTF funding for a Development Officer role to oversee the transition to smarter sectors in the region, aligning with initiatives like 'Invest Roscommon' and the LECP for Co Roscommon.

Castlerea Food Hub was highlighted as a successful example of bottom-up engagement, with active involvement from local community organizations and citizens seeking alternatives to traditional sectors.

Interest in the Food Hub approach was noted from other regions, including Finland, with discussions around the potential for similar hubs in other growth sectors such as lifesciences, ICT, and the creative sector.

Dorothy from Sligo Council presented proposals for a Smart hub in Tubbercurry, discussing options for utilizing derelict buildings versus greenfield locations.

The meeting included discussions on regional challenges and opportunities, particularly focusing on Tubbercurry's proposal and the broader project theme.

James outlined a potential pilot initiative in Claremorris, Co. Mayo, focusing on transitioning to smarter sectors after the closure of a large traditional meat factory. This includes the development of Digispace, a digital hub, and plans for further expansion.

The importance of stakeholder engagement and interregional learning events was emphasized, with the next event planned for Cantabria, Spain, in April 2024.

Next steps include follow-up with stakeholders for the upcoming learning event, Sligo stakeholders considering options for Tubbercurry, identification of potential good practices, and planning for a regional stakeholder meeting in the next semester.
