1st Stakeholder Meeting in the municipality of Hogeland

Last September, 12th, the municipality of Hogeland hosted their first stakeholder workshop with a total of 8 participants.

The municipality suggested that there is a need for improved coordination between COA and municipalities to speed up the employment of refugees (within less than 46 weeks). There is also a focus on the ICT challenge of duplicating or reapplying for refugee files with different agencies and there is a suspicion that individuals may bring their own files.

It has been suggested that business practices should be adapted to accommodate refugees who may be illiterate but eager to work. There is research on the challenges faced by young refugees over five years and research on Syrian refugees. She will share this information. The use of Arabic-speaking work coaches, known as "foreman", is obviously emerging and effective, but requires adequate training, support and the ability to hold an independent position.

Factors influencing employment can be attributed to the individual (abilities), the relationship with the employer, the employer itself or regulations (role models can figure in all three aspects).

There is the recommendation to use role models, such as AH employees (possibly referring to Albert Heijn (supermarket)), to inspire others. And emphasises the need to approach individuals in their own language and culture and suggests a project with peer experts who can help others. Also suggests focusing on policy and identifying 3-4 best practices in the region. Mentioned is "Noorderhuizen" as an accessible project, mainly used by refugees, with potential for further development, including additional language classes.
