The NEBA team is kicking off its international project with significant momentum. Despite being in its early stages, two exemplary practices were showcased at the Interreg Europe thematic workshop on renovation, held in May in Vienna, Austria.

"Vilnius has the highest number of multi-apartment buildings in need of renovation, with 5,230 units identified. The 'Let’s Renew the City' initiative addresses the critical need for funding administrators and administrative support to mobilize resident interest and facilitate negotiations. The primary goal is to enhance energy efficiency, reduce environmental pollution, and build a stronger community spirit among residents," emphasized Mantas Vilys, Director of the Lithuanian Innovation Centre.

Established in 2007 and transferred to the Vilnius City Municipality Administration in 2019, "Let’s Renew the City" serves as a competence center for developing sustainable living environments. The institution educates residents about multi-apartment renovations, administers renovation projects, and develops support programs. Its main objectives include promoting the renovation and modernization of multi-apartment buildings to enhance energy efficiency, reduce environmental pollution, and foster a sense of community among residents.

Another good practice presented in Vienna came from Turin. The initiative, called Homes4All, addresses critical housing issues in Italy and Europe, such as the mismatch between housing demand and supply, overcrowding, and various forms of poverty.

Homes4All highlights the significant number of unused assets and the urgent need for affordable housing. The initiative promotes urban regeneration by locating, renovating, and managing properties to provide affordable housing for families in temporary difficulty. By leveraging private investment for social impact, Homes4All fosters sustainable, energy-efficient cohousing projects, creating vibrant communities and effectively addressing housing needs.
