On 17 December 2024, SALAM gathered the project’s regional partners for a discussion on advancing migrant integration policies. Taking place one day before International Migrants Day, the meeting underscored the importance of fostering inclusivity and innovation across Europe to create pathways for migrants to thrive.

Representatives from across the SALAM consortium discussed and compared their regional experiences and challenges. Västra Götaland Region focused on apprenticeship programmes, validation of existing skills, and engaging employers earlier in the integration process.

Timisoara Municipality emphasised the importance of formalising support systems for migrants, creating integrated data systems, and establishing one-stop counselling services to streamline the process. The Municipality of Mark highlighted collaboration with small and medium enterprises to address labour market gaps, ensuring equal opportunities for migrants and young people.

Catalonia emphasised improving coordination among policy actors, adapting programmes to better meet migrant needs, and enhancing implementation tools. Meanwhile, Tuscany showcased its efforts to support entrepreneurship through tailored training and guidance, with a focus on gender inclusion and personalised support.

Integration and Inclusivity in Focus

These conversations aligned with a commitment to increasing participation among underrepresented groups, including migrants. By removing barriers and encouraging engagement in lifelong learning, these efforts aim to create inclusive opportunities that support both social and economic integration.

As today we mark International Migrants Day, the SALAM Project reaffirms its commitment to encouraging inclusion and participation for all, creating a future where everyone can fulfil their potential.
