Patras holds a the greek WeSTEMEU's Study Visit

The WeSTEMEU project has made its way to Greece, where the third Study Visit is currently underway. At the presentation held at the Central Hall of the Region of Western Greece in Patras, Greek partners organized a Dissemination Event that brought together prominent professionals and experts in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) from the Western Greece region. The purpose of the event was to review the project’s objectives and share the knowledge and experiences gained up to the present.

The event commenced with a presentation by Professor Chrysostomos Stylos, Director of the Institute of Systems Informatics (ISI) at the Athena Research Center. He then handed the floor to Amalia Voulgari, Regional Councilor responsible for matters of equality in Western Greece, who welcomed all attendees.

Dr. Vasiliki Liagkou, Scientific Coordinator of the Diophantus Center for Technology of Information (CTI), presented the project and contextualized her institution. She emphasized that while around 50% of university students in mathematics and health sciences are women, employment data does not reflect this proportion. One of the main reasons is that many women abandon these careers. In the field of engineering, for instance, only approximately 20% of students are female.

Mary Michopoulou, Project Coordinator for the Western Greece region, concluded the event by providing an overview of the regional context and the STEM-related projects her institution is currently undertaking. She also introduced the WeSTEMEU Project to all attendees and reviewed the experiences gained in their territory up to the present day.
