Cultural & Military History Tour in Suomussalmi, Kainuu
How to attract tourists and talk about the cultural, natural, and military histories of a region?
CHERRY’s local study tour to Suomussalmi (Kainuu Region, Finland) took place on June 6th, 2024 with actors from the fields of culture and tourism, and international students.
Two guides provided insight during the study tour in Finnish and in English.
The Raatteen Portti War Museum welcomed the group with a guide to learn about the important military history of Finland.
In addition, the Cultural Trail of the Old Kurimo House was an interesting destination for the tour group, with a lot of information about Finnish nature and culture, such as restored buildings from the 19th century, an old railway, a blacksmith’s shop, and a beautiful old forest. The tour group also tasted delicacies following the heritage of nationally celebrated writer Ilmari Kianto.
