Circular Minds: laying the foundation for collaboration

Our first major event, the Kick-Off Meeting, was held from 11 to 13 June, in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Hosted by Rijkswaterstaat, this meeting set the stage for our collaborative efforts. Here are the key takeaways:

The first day of the Kick-Off Meeting, dubbed the "Day of Action," took place at Molen De Ster in Utrecht. Participants began by engaging in speed dating sessions, which facilitated introductions and initial networking. This was followed by a comprehensive presentation of the Circular Minds project’s objectives, outlining the ambitious goals and strategic direction of our initiative. Each partner had the opportunity to pitch their team, share their regional ambitions, and discuss ongoing activities, fostering a deeper understanding of the diverse perspectives within the project. The day concluded with a discussion on the situational analysis framework, where strengths, challenges, and opportunities were identified, setting a strong foundation for future work.

The second day focused on teambuilding and was hosted at the LEF Future Centre, Rijkswaterstaat, in Utrecht. This day focused on interactive sessions designed to build trust and foster cultural exchanges among partners. Through various team-building activities, participants refined and aligned the project’s vision and mission. This alignment was crucial for ensuring that all partners were on the same page as we move forward. Additionally, the day included planning for future interregional events, with a particular focus on the upcoming gathering in Budapest, Hungary. These sessions were instrumental in solidifying our collective commitment to the project's success.

The final day, took place at Hof van Cartesius in Utrecht. The morning began with discussions on the structure and tasks of the working groups, ensuring clear roles and responsibilities for all participants. This was followed by an insightful tour of the premises, providing practical examples of circular and sustainable initiatives in action. The Hof van Cartesius, opened the first two pavilions with 25 entrepreneurs at the end of 2017. Since 2021, it has grown into a vibrant testing ground for circular and green entrepreneurship, boasting 3,500 m² of workspace in eight pavilions and more than 1,500 m² of green outdoor space. The Hof now consists of over 110 members. The day concluded with a session on cooperation, where best practices and partnership opportunities between governmental agencies and circular enterprises were explored. This session highlighted the importance of collaboration in achieving our circular economy goals.

Following the kick-off meeting, the first steering group meeting was held online on 3 July. During this meeting, key decisions were made, including the clarification of roles and tasks for the steering group. The partnership agreement, which outlines the commitment and responsibilities of each partner, was approved and signed. Additionally, the communication plan, prepared by ACR+, was approved, ensuring a cohesive and effective approach to project communication.
