The city of Mechelen has the ambition to not only have biowaste collected separately on its territory, but also to have it processed as high-quality as possible.

To meet the specific needs of the hospitality sector in Mechelen and to make the sector more sustainable, city funding was granted to address the problem in a pilot project. The winning consortium Waste2Energy will work together with the city of Mechelen and several local organizations representing the hospitality sector. The pilot runs until December 2024. The idea is to create a user-friendly application and collect the biowaste by cargo-bike. The waste will be converted into energy and soil improver for local use.
