Meet Our Lead Partner
The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh)
The lead partner for Digital Rural is the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh). It is one of the 4 Agronomic Institutes of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM), an Intergovernmental Organization with 13 member countries (Albania, Algeria, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, and Turkey).
CIHEAM promotes regional cooperation and sustainable development through post-graduate education, training & research. Each year MAICh welcomes around 80 students to study in its MSc programmes, chiefly from North African and Middle-Eastern countries. The institute is very active participant in research programmes including LIFE, Interreg Europe, Next MED, Horizon 2020, and Erasmus+.
Rural Development
The Department of Sustainable Agriculture (SA) MSc programme concerns the building of efficient, resilient, sustainable farming systems, but the department is also active in projects supporting wider rural development, for which digital infrastructure and service provision that confers access to opportunities and services to rural inhabitants are prerequisite.
The MAICh SA Dept. looks forward to working with their local partner the Region of Crete and the whole Digital Rural consortium towards the identification and implementation of the ideal policies to address the rural-urban digital divide in each partner country.
The MAICh Team on Digital Ruaul includes Dr Ioannis Livieratos, Dr Carolyn Owen , Adamantia Kokkinaki , Eleftherios Fakotakis , Artemisia Lioni and Eleni Stamataki
