Around 20 participants joined the third meeting of the stakeholders of Guldborgsund which focused on the “missing link” in the value-chain of direct reuse of building materials in Denmark.

The demand for reused materials is slowly becoming a part of the design of new buildings, but the demand is developing more slowly than the supply is expected to evolve because of new regulations. The supply of reused materials is fragmented and must become much more tangible for the designers. This is why Greendozer was invited to show their solution that is in place in Denmark now. The meeting was also designed for testing the will to work more practical and focused cross different organizations in the region of Zealand in the areas of public tenders, educations and logistics. The municipalities can for example create solutions for the storage of building materials and investigate the digital solutions for the designers. And they can learn from each-other regarding the public tenders.

On the agenda

  • Greendozer – a Danish company with logistic solutions.
  • Status of the showcases of selective demolition/demontage and the upcoming new building projects.
  • How to create public tenders and collaborations in explorative building-projects.
  • Tour of the harbour in Nykøbing Falster and the upcoming projects in the new harbour district.

Key discussions and input from the stakeholders

  • Greendozer has its first logistic center in place and is aiming at several more in Denmark.
  • Could we design tender requirements so that designers/entrepreneurs are required to use the materials from specific older buildings, when they are to build new ones?
  • New buildings should not be planned from the desktop but should be designed from the best possibilities of reusing materials.
  • Educations is not yet focused on the shift towards reusing materials. We must shift focus, and this could be one of the main topics moving forward with Inert Waste.
  • We must work together more broadly across different sets of skills and responsibilities from the start of every building project. And we also need to acknowledge the potential in transformation of buildings and reusing of materials in that regard.

What's next?

The next meeting will be in November. As there are several initiatives focusing on the reusing of materials in Denmark, Guldborgsund Kommune will make a special effort to bring different network together more systematically to prepare for this meeting.
