Inspiring brochure published by Circular Flanders (oct.24)
OVAM-circular Flanders, partner of the KARMA project, introduces tools for municipalities and cities pursuing or wanting to be introduced to circular construction through a newly published brochure.
In order to embed circular construction and renovation practices in more municipalities in Flanders, project-partner OVAM-Circular Flanders, together with stakeholder VVSG, representing all 300 Flemish cities and municipalities, developed a brochure on circularity in the built environment.
This brochure summarizes in 10 pages what local governments can do themselves to make or accelerate the transition towards a circular (re)construction culture in order to address environmental challenges while fostering economic and social benefits. It highlights the benefits for local governments to commit to circularity in their building and renovation projects, offers strategies to use less materials or use them more efficiently(responsible material use), to overall create adaptable, sustainable buildings for the future.
The circular ambitions and actions presented, are structured around five leading principles based on the ambition map for local authorities. The principles being illustrated with good practices from Flanders.
The ambition map itself offers a detailed framework to determine priorities and circular strategies for design and construction and helps to choose strategies and matching actions that local governments can implement accordingly. While this tool is made for local governments in Flanders, it can serve as a starting point for other cities and regions which are looking for entry-level principles for construction and renovation projects. It helps authorities enter into a discussion process with actors involved in the project to make circular choices and select the appropriate actions.
The brochure on local circular construction is available in Dutch and translated in English, and created by Circular Flanders and VVSG, with the support of the Coordination and Support Office of the CCRI circular cities and regions initiatives (CCRI-CSO).
The ambition map for circular design and construction, target group local government was created in Dutch by BLIEBERG A.C.E. commissioned by OVAM and translated in English, with the support of the Coordination and Support Office of the CCRI circular cities and regions initiatives (CCRI-CSO).
