Third interregional project meeting in Calabria (Feb. 2024)
The 3rd interregional KARMA project meeting took place in the region of Calabria (Italy), were partners met on the 7th & 8th of February. This meeting was jointly organised by Eurokom Association (IT) and the Region of Calabria (IT).
The first day of the interregional meeting took place in Catanzaro. At Cittadella Regionale Germaneto representatives from Calabria Region as well as Caterina Pratico, Eurokom, and Sabine Schubbe, Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, welcomed the project partners. The meeting was opened by a keynote speech from Riccardo Pulselli, Professor at the University Mediterranea of Reggio Calabria, who presented the current state of the art in Lifecycle Thinking to promote circular architectural design.
Sharing experiences, challenges and possible solution approaches was the main objective of the first meeting day. The project partners and selected stakeholders presented various good practices from their regions:
- PBN (HU): Hydrogen strategy and sustainable urban development of Szombathely
- University Mediterranea of Reggio Calabria (IT): Decarbonization strategies and environmental impacts in the building materials
- Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (DE): Pre-demolition Audits (PDA)
- Hessian Ministry of Agriculture Environment, Viticulture, Forest, Hunting and Homeland (DE): Urban Mining Project Town Hall Korbach
- Suceava Municipality (RO) Circular economy in educational units- rehabilitation and renewal projects
- Gerace Municipality (IT): From Past Materials: Reuse for Restoration, Architectural and Cultural Integrity, Resistance, and Resilience of the Gerace Cathedral.
- Public Waste Agency of Flanders/ BLIEBERG A.C.E. (BE): The circontainer
- Calabria Region (IT): Presentation on Ecosistem Srl Plant
- Municipality of Siderno: The region plants for the waste treatment. the Eco-ambiente company case
The second day of the interregional meeting was dedicated to study visits in the Region of Calabria: It started with a tour to Ecosistem Srl Plant, a waste plant close to Lamezia Terme. The project partners were given a guided tour of the waste and recycling facilities. The second study visit took place at the company. Eco-ambiente in Siderno, where the project partners got insights into Separation and sorting of construction waste. The old city of Gerace was the destination of the third study visit. The project partners got a guided tour to various restoration projects, such as the Cathedral of Gerace.
