Study Visit in Roeselare

From 4 till 6th of June 2024 the LEEWAY project partners and their stakeholders gathered at the city of Roeselare (Belgium) to learn from and exchange information on experiences with RECs.

During the 3 day visit participants were introduced to the status and procedures of RECS in Flanders. On the first day the VVSG explained the actions of the technical assistance hubs while grid operator Fluvius introduced their energy sharing protocol. In addition we learned about energy management systems to consume locally produced energy more efficiently from the REVOLT project. In the afternoon the consortium visited the Aster project that gives tenants access to sustainability and mIROM the city waste incinerator that operates the local district heating network and is now not only heating their building with waste heat but also cooling.

On the second day particpants learned on how Roeselare compiled its heat transition plan and they were introduced to energy cooperation initiatives in Flanders (RESCOOP, Beauvent, Ecopower). In the afternoon they travelled to EEklo where they learned more on the approach Eeklo is taking in energy cooperation and their Power Up project. In addition we visited some windmills from the energy cooperation ecopower.

On the last day participants engaged in a workshop on how RECs can support heat transition and the challenges related
