Project summary
(Private) cars placing more and more pressure on public spaces in many European cities. Policymakers are exploring alternatives like public transport, walking, and cycling. Shared mobility options are emerging as viable alternatives, but promoting their growth effectively remains a challenge. Furthermore, recent years have highlighted parking challenges associated with shared mobility services (f.e. shared micromobility). Effective parking policies for shared mobility are crucial for achieving sustainable urban mobility and a zero-carbon economy. PARSMO addresses these challenges by developing and improving parking policies to support shared mobility. The project will focus on:
- Integrating shared mobility into housing developments and local/regional bylaws.
- Optimizing intermodal hubs to reduce car dependency.
- Developing balanced parking policy frameworks for shared mobility services.
- Promoting the benefits of shared mobility to stakeholders.
By enhancing policy instruments, PARSMO seeks to reduce private car ownership, minimize the spatial impact of cars and shared mobility services, and lower emissions. The project stands out with its innovative focus on parking policies, setting it apart from other shared mobility initiatives. PARSMO will also promote the general concept of shared mobility in partner areas where it is less developed, leveraging best practices identified across Europe.
This cooperative effort involves experiences and less expierenced key stakeholders and partners from 6 different countries (Belgium, Italy, Greece, Serbia, Poland and Sweden) in the 5 Interreg Europe regions that will work together on creating impact via shared mobility and improve parking policies related to shared mobility.
