Last month, the first Masterclass for the PROXIMITIES project took place during the Kick-off Meeting in Reggio Emilia, Italy.

Led by our Advisory Partner, the Erasmus Centre for Urban, Port, and Transport Economics at the University of Rotterdam , the Masterclass focused on the question- "What are the Cities of Proximities?".  We discussed  how peripheral urban design and policy can create more accessible, inclusive, and sustainable communities.

Partners from the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, Riga Planning Region, and the Southern Regional Assembly shared valuable good practices and initiatives relating to the topic of the Masterclass.

A highlight of the Masterclass was the hands-on demonstration and testing of the Proximity Landscape Assessment Tool (PLAT) which has been developed by the Erasmus Centre for Urban, Port, and Transport Economics at the University of Rotterdam. This innovative tool is designed to evaluate and improve the services and infrastructure in peripheral urban areas, ensuring they meet the needs of their communities effectively.

This first Masterclass not only set the tone for the future of the PROXIMITIES project, but also underscored the collaborative spirit essential for achieving our project goals!
