FHN conducted their 4th Regional Stakeholder Meeting on October 29, 2024, online. The meeting featured engaging discussions and presentations from key experts, fostering collaboration on innovative waste management strategies in the Frederikshavn region.

Presentations That Sparked Inspiration:

  • Linda Nhu Larsen (Aalborg University):
Linda shared Aalborg University’s work on mapping waste streams and showcased two transformative recycling initiatives:
    • Zero Waste, focused on waste reduction, and
    • Reshape Waste, which transforms concrete waste into furniture using surplus materials from production companies.
  • Jesper Rulffs (Skagen Harbor):
Jesper introduced an innovative online disposal collection market that allows companies to buy, sell, and request surplus waste materials. He also shared insights from a waste screening project conducted in Frederikshavn and Hjørring, mapping resource flows and creating opportunities for collaboration in recycling.
  • Thorbjørn Stenholm (Erhvervshus Nord):
Thorbjørn highlighted EU funding programs available to support SMEs in waste prevention and cooperation efforts, including SMV Grøn, Closing Loop, and SMV Grønne Kompetencer.

Key Takeaways from the Stakeholder Dialogue:
The meeting fostered a fruitful exchange of ideas:

  • Stakeholders emphasized the importance of resource mapping and promoting a repair culture to view waste as a valuable resource.
  • Inspired by Jesper Rulffs' disposal platform, participants recommended expanding the pilot project across the region, with Skagen Harbor considering this suggestion.
  • Awareness of EU funding opportunities was heightened, providing stakeholders with tools to explore future projects, even though no immediate applications were announced.

This meeting reaffirmed the region’s commitment to advancing circular economy practices and highlighted the potential of collaborative efforts in managing resources responsibly.
