RIWET celebrates World Fish Migration Day
Aquatic biodiversity can only thrive in irregularly shaped riverbeds and riverbanks with natural groundwater flows and proper connections to habitats in a broader environment. RIWET has been developed with a view to improving policies that will contribute to the conservation, restoration and risk management of European rivers and wetlands.
Stakeholder engagement
The consortium of 10 partners and associated partner authorities are addressing the challenges and finding solutions to improve governance in public-social-private partnerships. Stakeholder engagement is crucial. Citizens, farmers and other land users play an essential role in terms of the restoration, stewardship and management of rivers, lakes, wetlands and peatlands. These are the undisputable core components of a blue-green infrastructure at national, regional and local level.
Big River Watch
Our RIWET partners organize many activities to engage with their stakeholders in the catchment communities. The River Trust in Ireland, for example, has just finished their biannual The Big River Watch - a citizen science data collection exercise that takes place across the UK and Ireland to monitor the health of waterways. Volunteers contribute to a national data set, providing information that benefits river restoration goals.
