4th Transnational Learning Meeting - Maramureș (Romania)

The 4th Transnational Learning Meeting combined with study visit was held on 24-25 September 2024. The meeting was held in Maramureș (Romania). The main objective of the meeting was the exchange of best practices regarding “Inter-institutional cooperation – role of public institutions and NGOs” in managing the situation of refugees and migrants.

First day, there was a presentation of general overview of refugees and migrants situation in Romania, as well as actions taken by Maramureș County Council. This was followed by presentations of good practices regarding ‘Inter-institutional cooperation - role of public institutions and NGOs’ by other partners.

The next part of the meeting was a workshop run by the University of Groningen on inter-institutional collaboration, using a case study from Cologne, Germany, and participants experiences with managing refugees and migrants. After the Steering Committee meeting there was a break after which the meeting participants took part in a study visit to YMCA MARAMUREȘ - a local NGO focused on youth and also on migrants/refugees.

Day 2 of the meeting was filled with study visits . Participants had the opportunity to visit the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, where participants were introduced to the centre's emergency management activities.

After the tour, the next place to visit was Maramures Regional Center for Procedures and Accommodation of Asylum Seekers. Participants learned about the center's responsibilities, specific procedures, and facilities. They also explored cooperation initiatives with NGOs and initiatives, that focus on an integration program that includes educational, cultural, and social activities, along with counseling and financial support for asylum seekers.
