Riga meeting kickstarts SLOWDOWN with good practice mapping
On Thursday, 19th of September, the Riga Planning Region hosted the first Regional Stakeholder Group meeting as part of the SLOWDOWN project. The event, themed "Slower Tourism for All: How to Make Nature and Culture Tourism in Riga Region More Framed, Affordable, and Meaningful?", brought together 36 participants, including managers from tourism and cultural institutions, non-governmental organizations, and local entrepreneurs.
Participants had the opportunity to learn about the SLOWDOWN project, its goals, and upcoming activities. The event featured expert presentations, including a talk by travel designer and ethical tourism promoter Aldis Kušķis, titled "Experience Story: What is Slower and More Sustainable Tourism."
The second half of the meeting focused on group discussions about the current state of slow tourism in the Riga Planning Region, as well as mapping successful practices that could be further developed and shared. The event was a valuable step in fostering collaboration and promoting the principles of slow tourism in the region.
