Project summary
The period 2024-2030 is crucial for Greener Europe as it needs to recalibrate targets and rethink operations. SMARTFORM focuses on enhancing capacities and the uptake of innovative good practices to support towards the joint goal of neutrality. Inspired by the EU mission on climate-neutral and smart cities, it fosters exchange of experiences and adoption of smart practices and methodologies, empowering stakeholders to participate in green transformation. The proposed approach for experience exchange and capacity building towards the transition to net zero emissions will be based on the Climate Transition Map of NetZeroCities, the platform supporting the EU Missions on climate neutrality&Cities Mission Climate City Contract (CCC) approach. This approach leverages the Climate Transition Map framework and includes: SMARTFORM City-to-City Mentoring Program, pairing cities at different climate transition stages for knowledge sharing and mentorship. Collaborative Learning through study visits tackling decarbonization challenges, aligned with the Climate Transition Map's systemic approach. Innovative solutions exchange and Community-led decision-making engaging citizens in co-creation during SMARTFORM stakeholders' meetings/Living Labs for place-based policy improvement while learning from each other.
SMARTFORM's partnership, including candidate countries with strong will to embark on climate neutrality (Berane ME, Trebinje BiH, Edinet MD), a research advisory partner with expertise on sustainability(CERTH), and EU areas with varying climate neutrality maturity (Region of Western Macedonia GR, Daugavpils LV, Romania, Sligo IE, Beekdaelen NL), fosters collaboration to build capacity for transformative decarbonization actions. It focuses on systemic innovation optimizing energy systems, revolutionizing transport, implementing circular economy, promoting green tourism, integrating green infrastructure and nature-based solutions, enhancing industrial processes and agriculture.
