ALOEN is the Local Energy and Climate Agency, of which there are around forty in France. It was created in 2005 by local authorities and the Agence of the Ecological Transition (ADEME) Brittany.

Its mission is to raise awareness, inform and advise local players, promote sobriety, energy efficiency, the development of renewable energies, eco-construction, and resilience. Today, it has 30 employees working with citizens, businesses, people in fuel poverty, local authorities, and other local players.

Since 2019, ALOEN has been experimenting with shared governance. Following staff restructuring in 2020, the team has formalised new internal organisational circular processes. The aim is to improve efficiency and contribute to employee well-being by enabling them to play a more active role in decision making and thus, avoid the pyramid structure with chiefs and sub chiefs.

The ALOEN motto is “Alone we go faster, together we go further, stop grumbling, get involved.”

ALOEN held the FEEL Project launch on the 7th April with local stakeholders and participants to promote the frugal approach in the region. ALOEN will be working closely with the City of Lorient to boost actions in terms of sobriety, frugality, and the development of low-tech solutions. And she's looking forward to exchanging experiences with the FEEL project partners to create a European dynamic on the subject.
