Energikontor Norr working towards the Frugal City approach
The North Sweden Energy Agency or Energikontor Norr in collaboration with the Överkalix Municipality has been chosen to take part in an Interreg Europe Project. The project will develop frugality in the Överkalix region by implementing good practices which include frugality, sufficiency, and community cooperation in their energy plan.
The FEEL Project will influence policymakers to re-consider their energy use and focus on how we can reduce carbon dioxide emissions using strategies where we only use what is needed.
The Överkalix region is already practicing such actions as the supply, distribution and consumption of energy, localization of energy production, monitoring intensive industries, new plans, and future projects. The FEEL project will bring further good practices and ideas to Norrbotten through inter-regional learning with eight European Partners.
“By participating in international projects, together with Överkalix municipality, we bring several good ideas back to Norrbotten to contribute to climate neutrality and speed up the energy transition”, says Isabella Katsimenis, Project Manager from Energikontor Norr.
“Överkalix must be a good place to live and of course we want to get involved in a project with this approach to focus on both frugality and engaging the Överkalix residents. This will strengthen the local energy transition and our journey towards climate neutrality”, says Niclas Hökfors, Mayor in Överkalix.
The Project will run from March 2023 – May 2027 with the last year acting as a monitoring phase to evaluate the actions implemented. Energikontor Norr will receive €216,618 in funding from the European Regional Development Agency by collaborating with partners from across Europe;
