Establishing Energy Communities in Frederikshavn
An energy community can offer numerous advantages to the quality of life of its residents. From creation of a communal interactive space for innovation and learning to improving energy efficiency and resource use, the initiative can be inspiring and empowering to citizens.
Frederikshavn Municipality held an information meeting on the 15th August in the Municipal building bringing together stakeholder and representatives from the Political District Committee to discuss the establishment of energy communities in the region. An external consultant presented the beneficial outcomes that can be achieved with an energy community. The meeting also looked at a business model to develop the citizen-based energy community, offering direct benefits with guidance from the committee through the preparation of the first draft of the Municipal Thrift Policy.
The event contributes to the objectives of the Interreg Europe FEEL Project which looks to implement the frugal city approach in eight European cities. The FEEL Project (Frugal cities through Energy Efficiency and Low-tech communities) aims to engage with the public to reconsider their resource use by employing energy sufficiency. The idea is to consider the impact of resource use and where possible, to avoid use altogether. Developing a communal effort with citizen cooperation can decrease the overall impact on biodiversity, climate change and even reduce social inequalities due to the increased inclusion and community spirit fostered through interaction.
