We are delighted to announce that the University of Belgrade—School of Electrical Engineering (ETF) has joined the NOTRE project as a Discovery Partner. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our efforts to advance regional innovation and technological development, particularly in the field of healthcare robotics and related technologies.

About the University of Belgrade—School of Electrical Engineering

The University of Belgrade—School of Electrical Engineering (ETF) is a prestigious higher educational and research institution in Serbia and the Western Balkans, specializing in electrical and computer engineering. With a vibrant community of 5,000 students and approximately 300 permanent staff members, ETF plays a pivotal role in driving technological innovation and societal progress. The institution is renowned for providing top-tier engineering education and equipping companies with highly skilled engineers who possess both state-of-the-art theoretical knowledge and cutting-edge practical experience.

ETF’s Role in National Policy and Industry Engagement

ETF's influence extends beyond academia, with active participation in shaping national policies related to education, research, and technological development. Representatives from ETF hold advisory positions at the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovations, and the Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Society, among other key public bodies in Serbia. This engagement underscores ETF's commitment to fostering an environment conducive to innovation and growth in the tech sector.

Moreover, ETF enjoys robust support from a broad network of over 120 companies annually, which provide sponsorships and donations to maintain the institution’s high standards of education and its cutting-edge laboratory facilities. This collaboration between academia and industry is central to ETF’s mission to remain at the forefront of technological advancements.

ETF's Expertise in Healthcare Robotics

ETF is widely recognized as a center of excellence in healthcare robotics innovation. The institution was a core partner in the Horizon 2020 project, Digital Innovation Hubs in Healthcare Robotics (DIH-HERO), which aimed to accelerate the adoption of robotics innovations in the healthcare sector across Europe. Through this initiative, ETF has been instrumental in supporting innovative SMEs and facilitating the deployment of healthcare robotics, particularly in the Western Balkans and South East Europe.

The ETF Robotics Lab and the Biomedical Instrumentation and Technologies Lab (BMIT) will be key contributors to the NOTRE project. Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, including collaborative robots (Neura Robotics, Franka Emika, ABB), wearable sensors (Delsys), Optitrack motion capture systems, and mBT brain-computer interfaces, these labs are well-positioned to support the project’s objectives. The labs also benefit from a wide network of collaborators, ranging from EU and local clinics to industry partners.

Looking Ahead

As a Discovery Partner in the NOTRE project, ETF brings invaluable expertise and resources that will enhance our collective ability to drive innovation and technological advancement in the region. We look forward to the exciting developments that this partnership will bring and to the positive impact it will have on the regional ecosystem.

The inclusion of the University of Belgrade—School of Electrical Engineering is a testament to the growing strength and potential of the NOTRE project.
