On 4 October 2023, the InterExpo Center in Sofia hosted the MachTech&InnoTech 2023 exhibition, where the Cluster "Mechatronics and Automation" and Sofia Municipality organised meetings with local stakeholders as part of the SKYLA regional stakeholder group activities. They gathered people from different backgrounds, such as company representatives, teachers and students from vocational schools studying engineering and IT specialities.

The aim of these meetings was to talk to regional stakeholders about the skills needed to succeed in our changing industries as they become more digital and environmentally friendly. The Sofia partners also facilitated a demo session of STEM equipment that can be used in vocational schools and centres to support the development of digital skills.

People from companies involved in mechanical engineering, automation, power electronics and robotics talked about the challenges they face in a fast-paced business world. They also discussed how they are using advanced technology and trying to be more efficient. They stressed the importance of having skilled, flexible and qualified employees ready to work in the realities of the workplace.

Students and their teachers from vocational schools shared how they learn practical skills in extracurricular classes. They talked about projects and activities supervised by their teachers, often as volunteers, that help them develop skills they will need for future jobs.

One of the discussion highlights was the organisation of meetings between students, their parents, teachers and people from the business community. The aim is to show that there are exciting careers in mechatronics, automation and related fields, not just the popular and fancy jobs in computer programming and IT.
