Pilot action in Rimini: a new RSM to discuss the next steps
One of the target of the Rimini Municipality within SPOTLOG is the implementation of a micro-consolidation hub for the storage of goods and their last-mile delivery by cargo bikes, inspired by an established practice in the city of Mechelen, Belgium.
Rimini is testing the hub’s viability in a easily accessible area of the city. The aim is to identify the optimum location for the micro-consolidation hub and re-design the whole supply chain and logistics network to accommodate deliveries by sustainable modes.
End of June 2024, the Municipality of Rimini published the tender to collect cycle logistic operators interest in implementing the pilot action. 4 operators showed interest. At the moment, the Municipality of Rimini is working on the technical aspects and specifications that operators will have to elaborate in their offers. The activity is planned to start early 2025.
On 20 September, Rimini organised a new Regional Stakeholders Meetings (RSM) to better present to the interested operators the SPOTLOG project, visions, objectives and results so far, and above all the required technical specification for the pilot implementation, along with the expected activities to be carried out.
The open discussion that followed clearly highlighted the importance of an ongoing dialogue and joint actions among cycle logistics operators who will participate in the Municipality of Rimini second tender for the management of the hub.
The final aim of the pilot is to drive a habits change both in stakeholders and citizens, concretely offering an alternative way for last-mile goods delivery.
